weird siguro yung feeling/atmosphere sa ASAP last sunday... nina & mymp singing together... parang kasama mo sa isang "get-together" yung ex-GF/BF mo habang kasama mo yung current GF/BF mo... small world indeed =)

What I knew was this... After Nina left the group saka pa naging bahagi ng MYMP si ate juris... later pa din pumasok c kuya mike... so i guess hndi totoo un na kuya mike did hook up with nina... kc hindi namn cla magkasama... it was earlier that nina left the group.... as much us yung naging back up c ate juris ni nina... hehehe

this article is from thefreeman newspaper of cebu:
The best of M.Y.M.P. in Cebu March 12, 2005
When your performance is nothing less than awesome, nobody could possibly dare question why you feel like naming your band Make Your Momma Proud (M.Y.M.P. for short). Truth be told, the inroads M.Y.M.P., which features Juris Fernandez on vocals and Chin Alcantara on guitars, has made in the music industry could make any family member, for that matter, mighty proud.
We were told that the duo has been so hot an act that almost everyday they have a gig in Manila and elsewhere in the country—and even had to decline other requests because of their increasingly crazy calendar. The two met as students at Miriam College in Manila, initially formed a show band, and dipped a hand into the acoustic scene on the side when it wasn’t even a rage yet. From then on, there was no turning back.
When they came to Cebu last February 27 for the “Beyond Acoustic” concert mounted by UP Cebu’s dynamic and hyper group of business students called Form 5 Productions at SM City Cebu, the group’s music still bordered on the acoustic. But there’s a noticeably edgier and fresher tone and depth to their sound, whether they were performing a cover ditty or an original composition (yes, the long wait for follow-ups to “A Little Bit” is over).
The best thing about having Make Your Momma Proud (M.Y.M.P) perform in Cebu
With M.Y.M.P.’s soulful sounds and heartfelt renditions, last February 27’s show naturally turned out like a post-Valentines date for many.
Juris’ vocal styles—which can run from crystal-clear and cooing to solid and soaring—were so effortless and authentic that it’s hard to imagine that you’re actually listening to Juris in the flesh and not some technically enhanced recording from a CD album. (It’s ever harder to imagine that she honed her singing skills by listening to the radio!).
The voice was perfectly complemented with guitarist Chin’s mean yet never self-indulgent affair with strings, which naturally sent many female fans swooning.
The best little known details about M.Y.M.P. revealed
Chin, whose mom was a Cebuana, and Juris, who is originally from Davao City, are the last people to make hush-hush matters out of their Cebuano roots. Chin’s late doctor-mom, who passed away before she could even see how long a way his son’s innate musicality has gone, was the inspiration behind their name.
And take note: they say their prayers first before dishing out their songs.
Did you also know that Nina used to be the original vocalist of M.Y.M.P. and that Juris was with Jimmy Bondoc’s band? Like how things work in the game of musical chairs, they traded places—and which proved to be a seemingly good career move for both of the song sirens.
M.Y.M.P. has come out with new CDs—“Versions” and “Beyond Acoustic”—sure signs that continued success for the group is inevitable. And by the way, they are coming back soon this March, as confirmed by their pretty and young Cebuana manager, Carla Lozada. Yehey!
The best songs in their repertoire
The covers: Kylie Minogue’s Especially For You. Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car (vocals courtesy of Chin Alcantara). Dianne Warren’s achingly familiar Tell Me Where It Hurts. Get Me (the contagiously giddy M.Y.M.P. original in “Beyond Acoustic”). Among many others...
The best gimmick on the night of the concert
Monster Radio deejays fished out a guy from the audience to bodily trace the letters “M.Y.M.P.” before a wildly cheering audience. Some audience members also volunteered to sing on stage their favorite M.Y.M.P. song.
The best effort that night
Aside from M.Y.M.P. and front act, BMW, we take our hats off to the guys and gals of the Form 5 Productions—the group responsible for bringing M.Y.M.P. to Cebu once more (they were last January as well)! The group deserves more than just a pat on the shoulder for proving that even if you’re young you can do something big and meaningful. — Nathalie Tomada

nung nagsound check pa ung mymp sa loob ng cinema 1, d pa kami nagpapapasok ng mga tao kaya un umiikot ikot na ang linya sa labas sa dami ng mga tao......... ang mas funny pa dun s dat dumating na sila chin at dalawa pa niyang kasama without juris, parang wla lang nangyari.wlang hiyawan, wala lahat tsaka d namin pinahalata na sila na un kaya un nakalabas sila ng sm ng walang kahirap-hirap... and then wen dey came in para mag sound check, alam nyo ba ano sabi ng isang kasama ni chin? sabi niya, "wow"...
tapos nung concert na talaga, sabi nila un daw ung una nilang performance sa big crowd as in parang concert na daw talaga un sa kanila kasi nga di bah sa mga bars lang sila tumutugtog nun.... but we made it happen! and they were very thankful to us especially their manager, carla kasi ilang beses syang nag-decline sa offer namin. and we know na after ng concert na un, lalong tataas talent fee nila... : )
and since then, an dami nang nagrerequest ng songs nila sa radio..... :) somehow, proud kaming mga organizers talaga......... parang mga totoong businessperson na talaga kami kasi b4 d event we have to deal with many people.like ako, i was the one in-charge to thefreeman newspaper.... ako lang naman ung laging nakikipag-usap sa advertising manager na kahit student pako at lagi ko silang iniipit... hehe sshhhhh wag maingay... iniipit in the sense na humantong sa point na pumayag na ang thefreeman na sila ang maging sponcor namin tapos wala kaming babayaran kahit na isang piso sa kanila!:) dahil dapat sana magbabayad kami ng mga P50,000 sa kanila para sa ad-spaces and ung article namain sa lifestyle na pinabasa ko nga sa inyo...:)
