This is a spin-off from one of the threads where somebody hoped MYMP would never leave the acoustic genre.
While I agree that they sound really good doing acoustics, I, as a fan, would also like to see them do other things. This is why I was very pleased with their Beyond Acoustic album.
This is not to say that MYMP should give up their acoustic gig and go for the other genre (rock, jazz, pop, etc.). Rather, I would like to see new surprises in every album they release, but at the same time I want them to sound the way I heard them the first time. That is, it would probably do each of their succeeding albums good if they filled it with acoustic songs while adding a little bit of spice by accompanying those with experimental ones.
It's always good to experiment but at the same time, staying true to one's essence. I don't want them to turn into dissapointments like D'Sound who turned off their first-generation fans by experimenting too much. It'd probably do them good to follow the example of U2 wherein the group carefully and methodically allowed their music to evolve along with their original set of fans, but at the same time keeping it up-to-date so as to attract each new generation.
With lots of talent, passion, perseverance, and smart market research, MYMP should be able to sustain their music in the industry in the years to come.
jazzy / pop ballads are clearly their forte... the reggae "waiting in vain" was ok, but the acoustic rendition of love songs from the "versions" album are really quite good, exceptional on some ... they brought new life to these songs they covered.... refreshing actually...
generally (for me, anyway), acoustic / unplugged renditions render a more truthful / honest setting vs. "polished" songs with keyboards, bass, drums, horns and what-have-you... (this is why i prefer MYMP's "Love Moves" version that Julia Fordham's)... but it depends, from time to time, from the current trends in music...
as much as I love the remakes that MYMP have done, I hope they'll exert more effort on making their own songs... 1. so as not to be pigeon-holed as a "VERY good cover band"... and 2. it will mold their identity, music, and further their talent...
don't get me wrong... they're talented as it is (their "versions" album got me through the Holy Week"), but writing their own songs would even put them a notch higher...
sorry for causing the misunderstanding relaxdiego....
I agree with your initial post... experimentation indeed is required for a band to grow, but staying true to your roots/origin keeps your 1st generation of fans happy (it is a bit hard to strike a balance)... the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is wrong; being content with your previous accomplishments/laurels and merely repeating them makes one complacent/stagnant... if MYMP kept doing acoustic-based music, it won't help them grow... leading to your comment that you are pleased with their "beyond acoustic" album because MYMP is evolving... i agree with you 100%
i should have mentioned on my first comment that in addition to your initial post, I would recommend them to concentrate further on writing their own songs... using your example, U2 didn't become famous by just doing cover songs... U2 rose to fame because of their own original songs which grew in time through experimentation...
na-mislead ko ata yung mga sumunod na nag-reply ... =)

Magkakaroon talaga ng impression na parang you have to choose which is better between the two albums kasi ang topic ay acoustic OR beyond... Hehe... Pero I don't intend to add more wood in the fire... For world peace po ako. Hehe.
I think okei lng naman clang mag-iba ng forte... I agree with relaxdiego... they should think of the strategies kung panong nilang mas mapapaganda ung kind of music nila hindi sa iibahin na talaga nila ung pagiging acoustic nila kumbaga ika nga ulit ni relaxdiego,,, lalagyan ng spice pra mas masarap sa pandinig...di ba? :)
